There many people's homes each day. I see nice homes and some that are not so nice! Of all the homes that I see, the majority of them are in need of regular monthly maintenance. The biggest enemy of any house in my opinion is water. Sometimes it is from roof leakage and other times it is from plumbing leaks. I've been talking about saving money this whole time. I can go on and on about the importance of regular home maintenance. Remember your home is your biggest investment that you will ever make. Most people wash their cars weekly and maintain their home close to never!

Build the grading up around your house. Some houses, this is not possible due to sidewalks or a neighboring house. Anything that you do will help divert the water away though. If you have sidewalks that adjoin your house, you should caulk the joint with a good concrete caulking that does not shrink. Clean your gutters and downspouts regularly. Proper functioning gutters and downspouts will help divert the water away from your foundation and out of your basement. I saw a house that actually had flowers growing in the gutters! You could try some of the gutter guards if you like. Test the smoke detectors and change batteries as needed. As I mentioned above, you should have smoke detectors on each level of your home. Hire a qualified contractor to do the work in your home. If in doubt, at least call a professional for some guidance.

You could spend few minutes of your time to do preventative maintenance but it can certainly keep your family safe from any disaster and can trim down costly repairs in the future. Another problem that requires repair is a toilet that runs. If you doubt about you house wiring, get a qualified electrician for a complete inspection and to check if your house wiring needs replacing. Gutters should also be checked if there is any leakage or blockage.
